In Memoriam | Jak ( Cordoba Sultana Hayim ) Kamhi (1925-2020)

"My fathers had set up ship dismantling workshops on their own land. In fact, until a while ago there were still such workshops. However, during that famous Golden Horn cleaning, most of it was removed and moved to other places. Bedrettin Dalan, who was the IMM President in those days, started the operation and since our boat site was also expropriated, we entered into partnership with Ali Koçman and Marmara Transport and established a 100 thousand square meter shipyard site in Tuzla.

However, after that, both Koçman and Marmara Transport withdrew from the partnership and the construction site remained entirely to us. We are now continuing to manufacture boats in Tuzla with the company we have taken over Profilo.

Some families from the Black Sea who would later become ship owners, such as Kalkavanlar or Sadıkoğulları in the Golden Horn, also worked with my uncle and my father in dismantling ships."

Kamhi, who said that the majority of the lands on the Golden Horn coast from Unkapanı to Eyüp belonged to the Kamhils, but his uncle Bensiyon Kamhi, who went to Askale due to Wealth Tax, did not return.
