Ankara was the heart of Turks and Turkey, even while the eyes of its founder were upon it, after bidding Him farewell to eternity and wearing its great name and meaning. Despite all kinds of breaks and wedges, it is the same today! Ankara, like its founder, is where we find our existence, our self and our identity in its name and meaning; It was a land, atmosphere and direction that we loved and bonded with. This city was the other name of a "state of perfection" that we longed for and prioritized and dreamed of and strived to keep alive and fresh, because it took the fire of existence from us and offered us the essence and power that nourished our existence from that fire. It was the capital of the rational and national movement. That's why Falih Rıfkı Atay, in his article titled "Ankara Air" written in 1932, said, "This atmosphere can be found without travelling. As long as it is sought after..."
Ankara was the heart of Turks and Turkey, even while the
eyes of its founder were upon it, after bidding Him farewell to eternity and
wearing its great name and meaning. Despite all kinds of breaks and wedges, it
is the same today! Ankara, like its founder, is where we find our existence,
our self and our identity in its name and meaning; It was a land, atmosphere
and direction that we loved and bonded with. This city was the other name of a
"state of perfection" that we longed for and prioritized, and dreamed
of and strived to keep alive and fresh, because it took the fire of existence
from us and offered us the essence and power that nourished our existence from
that fire. It was the capital of the rational and national movement. That is
why Falih Rıfkı Atay, in his article titled "Ankara Air" written in
1932, said, "This atmosphere can be found without travelling. As long as
it is sought after!..."
In this book, the author deals with three architects who
designed the buildings built in the founding Ankara (1923 / 1938-40), and who
took responsibility one after another for the development of this "Kemal
place", and the educational buildings that were shaped in their hands. It
examines the atmosphere behind those buildings, the three great architects who
contributed to the establishment of the capital in a recent period, and their
structures with their interpretations to the present day. He looks at the
"history" and "fortune" of the capital Ankara from within
and through these structures. It discusses our view, or lack thereof, of these
architectural structures that are entangled in the air we breathe, as an urban
and cultural heritage bearing "the legacy of those who gave their lives to
give the survivors the opportunity to live and work."
The author, who criticizes the architectural chaos and urban
dead-end in which Ankara was stuck in the process of changing from its
"Kemal state" and atmosphere to new "weathers" that made
our other cities, along with it, unrecognizable, wrote his book about being
left orphaned between "living and leaving" and "living
settled". He describes it as a melody to hope.
