Comment
The shop includes a semi-outdoor part for the beautiful seasons, protected by a columned wooden gallery with ornate capitals. Glass containers (kavanoz) of various shapes contribute to the picturesque nature of these sweets (şekerci). The old man who seems to be guarding the shop is sitting in the shade of the gallery, leaning on his cane. Confectionery was used for religious festivals - especially that of the bayram - and weddings. It could be Hacı Bekir's shop in Bahçekapı (Eminönü district), which dates back to 1777, or Cafer Erol or Hafız Mustafa, in the same district.
