In Memoriam | Halûk Tarcan (1925-2020}

Halûk Tarcan, passed away on December 30, 2020 due to corona.

He was born in Istanbul in 1925.

He is a folklorist who studies on Pre-Turkish culture, language and history.

After graduating from Kabataş High School, he started to do research on Pre-Turkish culture, language and history.

He lived in France. He worked as a researcher at the Sorbonne University at CNRS.

In 2005 he returned to Turkey permanently.

He entered here as the only person among 56 people in 1962, with his total theory that he explained the indivisibility of the time based on the flawed scales that are characteristic of traditional Anatolian Turkish Folk Music.

Since his father was a military doctor, he was appointed by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk as the manager of Urfa Military Hospital. That is why Halûk Tarcan was born in Şanlıurfa in 1925. Selim Sırrı Tarcan's nephew, Architect Lect. See. Reza Ercüment Tarcan Turkey's first neurosurgeon and composer Prof. Dr. He is the brother of Bülent Tarcan.

He had a trio education: piano, art history, and ethno / musicology.

Music education; He graduated from the Istanbul Municipal Conservatory piano department with a very high degree as a piano student of Ferdi Statzer. He worked with Guido Agosti in Rome and Siena, Carlo Zecchi in Salzburg, and Jacques Février in Paris.
