Mavi Boncuk |
Mavi Boncuk Blogger was launched on May 03, 2004.
A little discussion about the recent University Law (YOK Yasa Tasarisi) with a friend and realizing that she was critical of the Law based only on the propagandist misinformation provided by the 'Jacobin' Turkish intelligentsia without bothering to find and read the text was an early catalyst.
That was a turning point, tipping moment, the straw breaking the back of my very own proverbial camel. Keanu Reaves might say "Whoa" at this point and so was I.
I simply could not wait any longer and had to prepare postings, thinking that the wide-spread ignorance about a heritage that made us mindless drones in a world spoiled by the victors of a generational war being waged on all fronts, oppressing many nations for a good 200 years had to be counteracted, even with this tiny Blog.
By June 15, 2004 I was posting at the rate of 8 blogs per day. I ordered more books, historic atlases and scanned more material than ever, discovered alternate approaches that changed my biases or caused me to reconsider.
My intension was, and always will be to create a cultural historical depository hoping that things normally available in a multitude of sources will provide interesting connections, forming useful hooks, creating interest in Ottomania and Turcomania as a Blog.
I can also see that in many cases my postings have the workings of a subconscious dream with an associative quality and why not. I hope to re-visit old postings , re post with additions and provide links between related articles.
I, M.A. Munir, still wounded, still bleeding, a 'gocmen' refugee of the Balkan lands, that broken territory, the true heart and mind of the Ottomans, the agony of their souls. I still can not listen to a 'Balkan Hava' without tears welling in my eyes. A sentimental fool... Yes I am. Yet it was the hidden source of my enthusiasm on the day I started Mavi Boncuk and I will keep on adding past and present source material and comments on Turcomania and Ottomania.
I might even try creating new and narrowly defined Blogs on Asian Roots of Turks, Political Treaties, Ottoman Navy/Air Force, Ottoman Philately or Ottoman Cinematography.
I even posted in Turkish due to the immediacy of the issue or its availability only in Turkish. (such as Ă–calan and Zana Go-Between )
I hope to return to my soul searching with future Blogs…
Until such day… Keep on Bloging...
