Kadiköy During the Occupation

Kadiköy pier during the occupation

During the occupation years (1918-1923), the Kadıköy Pier was a key transportation hub connecting the European side of Istanbul, controlled by the occupying forces, with Anatolia, the center of the War of Independence. This led to the pier playing a significant role both politically and socially.

By controlling the pier, the occupying forces were able to monitor those traveling to and from Anatolia.

The National Strugglers used the pier for clandestine communications and arms smuggling.

Tensions occasionally erupted between the occupying forces and the National Strugglers at the pier.

The occupying soldiers also stayed in various types of shelters in Kadıköy.
