Durusu, who was a captain for 30 years during this duty and knew the Black Sea very well, had met with Mustafa Kemal twice before the mission. Durusu, who did not want anything from Mustafa Kemal, lived all his life with the pride of fulfilling his critical duty in the national struggle, loyal to Atatürk's principles, far from glory and fame. During the 3-day voyage, there were 22 crew and 19 passengers on the Bandırma ferry. Mustafa Kemal's order to İsmail Hakkı Bey, "To stay away from harm by the Entente Powers, follow the route that follows the coast, in case of danger, put the ship on the shore" proved how dangerous the mission was. The name of İsmail Hakkı Durusu was given to the city lines ferry by the Turkish Maritime Administration on May 19, 1999.
