[1] İsmail Hakkı (Durusu), the captain of the steamer SS Bandırma , which transported Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his 18 comrades to Samsun on May 19, 1919, was born in 1871 in Zincirdere, Kayseri. After graduating from the Boarding Commercial Captain's School of the Bahriyeyi Şahane in Heybeliada, he became a captain in the Seyr-i Sefain Administration in 1915. While being the captain of the Bandırma Ferry on May 1, 1919; He was appointed to take Mustafa Kemal and his friends from Istanbul to Samsun, who was brought to the 9th Army Inspectorate on May 16, 1919. Durusu, who was a captain for 30 years during this duty and knew the Black Sea very well, had met with Mustafa Kemal twice before the mission. Durusu, who did not want anything from Mustafa Kemal, lived all his life with the pride of fulfilling his critical duty in the national struggle, loyal to Atatürk's principles, far from glory and fame. During the 3-day voyage, there were 22 crew and 19 passengers on the Bandırma ferry. Mustafa Kemal's order to İsmail Hakkı Bey, "To stay away from harm by the Entente Powers, follow the route that follows the coast, in case of danger, put the ship on the shore" proved how dangerous the mission was. The name of İsmail Hakkı Durusu was given to the city lines ferry by the Turkish Maritime Administration on May 19, 1999.
