Nearly 150 light bulbs in the big chandelier illuminating the main hall of Hagia Sophia and 2,000 LED light bulbs in 30 chandeliers were exchanged for new bulbs.
The chandeliers of Hagia Sophia and its lighting system were renewed during the recent restoration process, but museum visitors and management complained about the LED lights. Filming for “Argo” began in Los Angeles and continued in Washington and Istanbul. Istanbul’s historic neighborhoods Beyoğlu, Fatih and Eminönü, which Affleck compared to Iran, served as natural settings.
According to the Internet Movie Data Base, Affleck, who will also star in the film, plays Tony Mendez in this wild true story about a CIA rescue mission that took place in 1979. After their colleagues were taken hostage by the Iranian revolutionary government, six U.S. diplomats sought protection in the Canadian embassy, where spymaster Mendez masterminded a cover story that presented them as Canadian film workers out on location.
The film is set for a Sept. 14, 2012 release, and also stars a slew of Hollywood’s finest, including, Alan Arkin, Bryan Cranston and John Goodman, as well as Kerry Bishe, Kyle Chandler, Rory Cochrane, Christopher Denham, Tate Donovan, Clea DuVall, Victor Garber, Zeljko Ivanek,Richard Kind, Scoot McNairy, Chris Messina, Michael Parks and Taylor Schilling.
