Kirkuk: South of the U.N.-mandated northern "no fly" zone, this historic city produced up to a million barrels of oil a day and almost half of Iraq's oil exports and is a flashpoint between Iraqis (Arab and Turkoman) and ethnic Kurds, reports the research group Global Security.
